Dog’s excessive barking can be very irritating when you are not aware of its reasons. Though, it is man’s best friend, its annoying sound can be intolerable. A dog that keeps on barking at the mailman, the ice cream vendor, the milkman and even just a passersby can become a real problem. The best way to solve this matter is to give it an anti-bark collar.

There are two sorts of anti bark collar. A shock collar, which sends the dog a static pulse of varying intensities, disciplines your dog by making it feel that what he is doing is wrong. The second type is a citronella collar, which sprays him with a little amount of citronella oil, works on his four senses (hearing, feeling, seeing and smelling), that actually makes it more effective. It is only logical to say, as in human behavior, that an action is more effective if there are more senses involved. The citronella spray works well in a way that the dog will link the unpleasant smell with its barking, resulting to a more disciplined pet. Even with the dog’s barking disruption, it does not harm the dog for it just surprises the pooch with an unpleasant smell.

In fact, the citronella collar has been proven to be twice more effective than the shock collar for there four senses that are affected. When it comes with humans, the more senses are affected, the more reactions will be brought. Thus, most dog owners prefer this collar over the shock collar. Dogs have higher sensitivity to fragrances and the strong smell of citronella (though desirable to humans) disrupts the dog’s barking.

Compared with the shock collar, the citronella collar makes the pet owner carefree and does not have to worry about malfunction or unintentional defects that can harm the pet. In fact, the spray is pleasant to humans and with careful handling does not really bring damage to your dog or to non living things. There is no dangerous instance of being electrocuted by a malfunctioning collar. It can be said that the citronella collar, since no risks are involved to both man and dog, is safer to use. In a more humane and more eco-friendly society like ours today, the best choice is always the safest and most natural option.
