Dogs are animals that are constantly hugged, kissed and petted by the family as these pets are often times considered as the babies of the family. Dogs are specially affectionate with children so that the strong bond that is formed is the reason why kid and dog becomes virtually inseparable. To the consternation of some parents, the dog that gets too attached to the child smells. All dogs have a distinct smell and a dog owner that states that his/her pet is odorless is either lying or has become accustomed to the not too pleasant odor of the pet.

Dog owners regularly groom the pet to ensure that they are kept clean as being considered as family members, dogs are allowed to live and even sleep with the family. Frequent bathing is not advisable for dogs as it dries up the skin thus owners would provide the pet with doggie powders and colognes to maintain the pleasant smell in between baths. No matter how hard owners try to prevent the primitive behavior of dogs, the pet’s instinct to give in to the habit will surface from time to time.

Dogs have the unaccountable inclination to roll in rotting animals so that the fetid smell would cling to the fur. It is common for dogs to struggle when they become aware that a bath is forthcoming. Fido and company though love to wallow in stagnant water. The dirty water would dry up leaving an unpleasant wet rag smell.

Dogs are voracious eaters so that even inedible objects will be eaten. As Fido was not taught to use toilet paper, the ingested plastic that was not totally excreted would cling to the dog’s rear end to give the dog an obnoxious smell. Moreover, the dog’s feces can stick to the longish fur around the anal area. The dog’s abhorrent smell can be due to a medical reason. Bad breath is a symptom of diabetes or a kidney disease. The disgusting smell of the pet can be can be due to an impacted anal gland, periodontal diseases as well as from an infected ear.

Dogs can identify each other because of the yellowish to grayish anal gland secretion that also give the dog the smell that is not too pleasant for humans. The primary reason why a dog smell though is poor hygiene. Bad smell is also noticed in humans that do not wash off the grime and the sweat from the body. The dog’s unpleasant smell can be easily removed if the pet is regularly groomed.
